Mithya is a Hindi (Bollywood) Crime Comedy Thriller film released on 8 February 2008. Mithya is one of the Best Double Role Hindi Movies. Ranvir Shourie plays the double role.
The tentative budget of Mithya was 4 Crore INR. The film did well commercially and earned approximately 7.5 Crore at the Worldwide Box Office.
Raje (Ranvir Shourie) is a gangster, lives with his mother (Suhasini Mulay), wife Revati (Iravati Harshe), and has two school-going children. Mannu (Harsh Chhaya), brother of Raje, and Abbas (Ikhlaq Khan) are two main pillars of Raje.
A rival gang headed by Shetty (Saurabh Shukla) runs his syndicate with his crime partner Gawde (Naseeruddin Shah), Tipnis (Pankaj Tripathi), Inspector Ram (Vinay Pathak), and Inspector Shyam (Brijendra Kala). The Shetty gang wants to kill Raje.
Nayak (Manu Rishi Chaddha) is also a member of Shetty gang but works as a mole in Raje's gang. Ram and Shyam attempt to kill Raje, and he escapes from death, but his driver succumbs to death.
VK (Ranvir Shourie in a Double Role) is a struggling actor. He witnesses Ram and Shyam shooting Raje and reports it to the police. Shyam overhears it and informs Ram.
Ram and Shyam kidnap VK and bring him before Gowde and Shetty, who want VK to replace Raje after killing Raje. Since VK has no choice, he has to accept their offer against a handsome amount.
VK meets Sonam (Neha Dhupia), a Shetty gang member and mistress of Gowde. However, she tells a false story, and soon both fall for each other.
Shetty and the gang, with the help of Nayak (Manu Rishi), a double agent, shoot Raje dead. VK replaces Raje but finds him uncomfortable living with a family of the gangster.
VK wants to quit and meets Sonam to share his feelings. However, he falls from the balcony, receives head injuries, and becomes a patient of amnesia (loss of memories).
After his memory loss, VK starts treating him like Raje, spending time with his family, and loving Raje's wife, not remembering anything about Sonam.
What happens to the relationship between Sonam and VK? Whether VK continue to make fool his family and gang as Raje? Whether the gang learns the real identity of VK? If yes, what happens next?
The film Mithya replies to all such queries in an unorthodox manner.
